ABSTRACT
Innovation cannot be seen as an exclusively technical and linear process (any longer). Rather, innovation is a social process and depends on cooperation, team based work and networks. Therefore, a lean and flexible framework for innovative projects is needed. In this article, we highlight the questions if the agile framework Scrum can be seen as such a framework and how Scrum is used in organizational practice. We will show four very different ideal types of using Scrum, which reflect different ways of combining agility and innovation. The ideal types range from the attempt to establish more and better communication processes within project teams to the attempt to ensure a protective and highly self-organized space for agile teams.
