ABSTRACT

This paper explores capabilities and impediments to international trade and transportation facilitation work as well as infrastructure in Turkmenistan. The research assesses a framework of supply chain activities and presents a process of efficient and safe transportation of Extra Heavy and Oversize cargoes in Central Asia (e.g. Turkmenistan). Being a part of the Central Asia, Turkmenistan plays a critical role in facilitating energy transportation and overall balance of peace in the region. The scope of research includes all transportation modes that carriers could utilize to haul the Extra Heavy and Oversize cargos in Turkmenistan. The overall logistical infrastructures in Turkmenistan are examined. We then Identify and assess possible challenges and pitfalls associated with transportation of Heavy Weight and Oversize cargoes. A case study assesses and pinpoints the optimal location for the global distribution center. Finally, we provide suggestions for improving supply chain activities in developing countries in Central Asia and discuss future research.
