ABSTRACT
The role of technology cannot be neglected in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, especially, realizing its full potential in the Ghanaian economy. The study examined the role of Fintech on Poverty (SDG 1), Food Security and Agriculture (SDG2), Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), Education (SDG 4), Gender equality and women empowerment (SDG 5), Economic productivity and Resilience (SDG 8), Financial Inclusion (SDG 9) as well as Environmental Sustainability (SDG 11). Researching into the selected SDG's will provide valuable lessons for emulation, these goals affect the majority and also address local challenges. Using quantitative research approach, a survey on 300 respondents was considered, data protection policies and keeping the identity of our respondents confidential was also taken into consideration. The survey questions focused on the use of fintech platforms as a tool for poverty alleviation, sustainable agriculture, environmental sustainability, economic empowerment through the provision of financial services to underserved communities, especially women in closing the gender gap, an approach in reaching a balance between economic growth and empowerment. We carried out thorough review of recent literature coupled with reports by renowned institutions such as the world bank, Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Statistical Services. The findings of the study revealed that, there is a positive relationship between sustainable goals, affecting human existence as well as sectors of the economy, implying that, fintech and its applications cannot be underestimated in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals especially in developing economies.
