ABSTRACT

The objective of this case is to present the first agricultural cryptocurrency in the planet, launched with great success in Mexico to promote investment in the Mexican agricultural sector. The name of this new cryptocurrency is Agrocoin, the first one developed in the world for a decentralized blockchain ecosystem. People from all around the world can participate as investors in the Mexican agribusiness even without the experience, knowledge or time to become an independent farmer in Mexico. This case shows the possibility that a cryptocurrency could build a market with liquidity connecting many investors from any country and help people become farmers without the need to be physically in the crops. This job is made by “miners” through a WiFi access to Agrobot®. Agrocoin was launched in Mexico in 2018 to develop the habanero pepper production in the agricultural sector and could be replicated in any part of the world, becoming a force of positive disruption in the financial markets. The objective is to show the Mexican creativity to launch a cryptocurrency aimed as a tool to develop agribusiness and global sustainable development in the world.
