ABSTRACT

The success of corporate venture teams depends on their ability to explore and exploit opportunities. Venture team members use existing knowledge from within the organization, and new knowledge from clients, and the marketplace, to be able to do this. The venture team experiences conflict and cohesion due to interpersonal and work related reasons. This research surveys 235 members of internal venture teams to explore the relationships between these team factors and the absorptive capacity of the venture. Team conflict and team cohesion are found to influence absorptive capacity in the team, which in turn affects the performance of the venture.
