ABSTRACT

The focus of this paper is the current internet usage situation in Austria and the lack of appropriate Security Awareness in general based on the absence of adequate education of the Youth. As our children usually do not learn about Information security in school, they must rely on what their parents teach them on this subject. Only their parents are digital immigrants (PRENSKY, 2001) or have “learned” from these which mean they do not know much about Information Security by themselves if they do not have a special interest in this topic and have attended courses at University or provided by their employer. Later as an adult they know how to use computers but they still have less or even none knowledge about Information Security and probably make mistakes which cost the company much money. It is in our all interests to provide Information Security training in school to elevate our overall knowledge on Information Security. This paper describes the current efforts taken in Austria to raise the Information Security of our children with a special focus on the contribution of the University of Applied Sciences Technikum Wien.
